April is Dog Bite Prevention Month. It’s a very important month because there are about 70 million nice dogs in the united states. The number one rule to remember is that any dog with teeth can bite. Not just mean dogs. Even a nice dog or your own nice dog can bite if he gets hurt or afraid. And sometimes he can accidentally bite you when he’s playing. That is why practicing dog safety all the time is very important no matter where you are. Do you remember what to do if you are around a dog who may bite you? Be a Statue or a Turtle and hide your hands. Be very still and quiet until an adult can help you. Always ask permission to pet a dog who is not your own. If you see a dog you do not know or one that is hurt get an adult. This is a good month to watch Sheriff Sheldon’s videos again. And it is your job as a Deputy of Safety to help your family and other children practice dog safety. If you, your family and friends work together to make people aware of dog safety, less people will get bitten by a dog.
Sheriff Sheldon will be at the Atlanta Pet Expo on April 6th and 7th at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, 2405 Sugarloaf Pkwy, Lawrenceville, GA to demonstrate dog safety and meet his deputies. He will be giving out free gifts for everybody who he meets.
