Many dogs are afraid of Thunderstorms but did you know it is not only the loud sound of the thunder that frightens them. What scientist have learned is that it is really the feeling of static electricity that tingles through their fur that scares them. It makes them look for a place to hide to get away from that feeling. Did you walk with your socks on the floor and then touch a piece of metal and get shocked? That is what static electricity is and what your dog feels that make him afraid. He will try to find a place that is grounded meaning there is less static electricity like a basement, bathtub or other enclosed space. Just like when there is a bad storm your parents tell you to go. It is also good to put music or TV on so that the they cannot hear the thunder. If you dog is afraid of storms next time watch where he goes to be safe. He is very smart.
