Course Description


Based on requests from shelter managers and teachers, we are going to open all training courses to the general public at no cost and rely on donations. If you want to help keep kids and dogs safe and provide dog training courses for good manners, you can donate to the cause. For every $25 donation, you will receive a “Sheriff Sheldon’s Deputies of Safety: The Fun Way to Learn Kid & Dog Safety” coloring book.

Sheriff Sheldon's Deputies of Safety

Kids love dogs and dogs love kids. In order for both to be safe with each other, kids need to learn things and dogs need to learn things. This course is designed for kids and dogs to have safe and happy times together. Through online videos, fun activities, and a coloring book “manual”, your child will learn:
• What a dog saying to them and whether to approach or stay away.
• How to be kind to the family pet and provide interactive playtime.
• How to be safe around dogs in the neighborhood and handling various types of dos and situations they come across.
• By being a statue or turtle, what they should do if a dog turns mean?
• How to help your mom and dad – games to play to educate everyone in the family including the parents, kids, and dog

3Minute: Walking Politely On a Leash

It's embarrassing and can be fatal when your dog does not know how to walk nicely with you on his leash. How do you get him to walk politely on a leash? Here's how to do it the 3Minute way.
The course focuses first on using positive reinforcement to teach two actions, 'LET'S GO and 'EASY'. Then moves on to activities that show how to apply these actions to everyday situations. Once your dog knows them, you use both commands to get your dog walking politely.

It can be deadly if your dog runs out into the street or after a strange dog. That is why COMING WHEN CALLED is the most important command. Here's how to teach and train it the 3Minute way. The course focuses first on using positive reinforcement to teach two actions, "LEARN MY NAME" and "COME". Then moves on to activities that show you how to apply these actions to everyday situations. Once your dog knows them, you use both commands to get your dog to always stop what he is doing and come to you.

3Minute: Nipping in Play Still Hurts

Children can become frightened of a dog who nips at them in play, elderly people can sustain injuries and bruises, and it's annoying to be nipped at by your own dog. Although nipping is normal dog behavior, you need to keep everyone safe. Here's how to do it the 3Minute way. The course focuses on using positive reinforcement to teach the command OUT. Then moves on to training activities that apply that command to everyday situations. Once you dog knows what OUT means he will develop the habit of keeping his teeth off of everything but his toys.
