Caring parents want to prevent children from getting bitten by a dog; including the family pet. Kids need to learn how to be safe around dogs. Just like you teach your dog to be gentle with your child, your child relies on you to teach him what he or she should and shouldn’t do around the family pet or the dog he sees out in the neighborhood. Perhaps the first thing you want to teach your child is to leave a sleeping dog alone. Kids understand being startled. Therefore, tell them waking a sleeping dog may cause the dog get startled and since he can’t say “HEY” he may snap.
